Report a Lost or Found Pet.
If you have lost or found a pet in San Diego, there are several steps you can take to help reunite the pet with its owner or find a new home for it:
- Report the lost or found pet to local animal shelters and rescue organizations. These organizations often maintain databases of lost and found pets and can help connect you with the pet’s owner.
- Post flyers in your neighborhood and surrounding areas. Be sure to include a clear photo of the pet, a description of its appearance and any distinguishing features, and your contact information.
- Utilize social media platforms and online resources. Post on local community pages, lost and found pet groups, and websites dedicated to reuniting lost pets with their owners, such as Nextdoor, Craigslist and Petfinder.
- Contact local veterinary clinics to report the lost or found pet. They may have information about the pet’s owner or can help you find a new home for it.
- If you have found a pet, check for any identification tags, such as a collar or a microchip. Microchips can be scanned at most veterinary clinics, which can provide the owner’s contact information.
- If you have lost a pet, make sure to update your pet’s microchip information with the most current contact details.
